It's never too early to speculate where upcoming free agents will sign during the 2027 offseason.
For the New York Yankees, their top impending free agent is second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr.
Chisholm, a two-time All-Star, will likely command a hefty contract, but will the Yankees feel strongly about re-signing the 28-year-old?
Considering New York's other options, Chisholm may be the top choice available, writes FanSided's Christopher Kline.
"The relationship between Jazz Chisholm Jr., the Yankees and their fans is a bit fraught. That doesn't mean he will not re-sign, as the Yankees don't really have an in-house replacement at second base and Chisholm has provided considerable value with his glove and base-running this season even with his bat frozen in ice," Kline wrote.
Even with unrealistic 50-50 projections, Chisholm's season at the plate has been underwhelming. He has 17 home runs and 30 stolen bases, but his .690 OPS and 31.1% strikeout rate are less than impressive.

If Chisholm does not re-sign, the Yankees could opt to slide Anthony Volpe to second base next year. But he was just sent down to Triple-A, a signal that the organization's confidence meter in the former top prospect has reached low levels.
"At the end of the day, New York would be remiss to let Chisholm walk without better options readily available. Trying to paper over his absence with Anthony Volpe, for example, would be poorly received," Kline added. "The Yankees can bank on a bounce-back while valuing the mostly positive energy Chisholm injects into the lineup on a daily basis."
General manager Brian Cashman could also pivot to a more contact-oriented second baseman, like Luis Arraez or a reunion with Gleyber Torres.
