After eight years with the Los Angeles Lakers that included a championship in the bubble way back in 2020, LeBron James will no longer be a part of the team as the 41-year-old continues to play and find a new home.
So as we talk about landing spots for the legendary forward, the question has become: Why did James not return to the team he's called home for a decade?
Per ESPN's Shams Charania, it's not about the money: "I'm told this is a happiness-led decision for LeBron James. He feels like he needs to find his happiness elsewhere. Wherever he lands in free agency, it will not be driven by money."
That's the reason that stands out. But what hasn't been said out loud is LeBron's role on the Lakers if he stayed.
This is where we'll speculate: It's not because of Doncic, but we did see that LeBron took a secondary role behind Doncic last year. And frankly, wherever James lands, he wouldn't be the top superstar.
So maybe it's just time to move on and see if there's anything else out there that would be fun for James and maybe more of an opportunity to contend.
Perhaps! What if James makes that a demand with whoever he signs? For now, Bronny is under contract with the Lakers.

Did LeBron leave the Lakers because of Luka Doncic?

Will Bronny James join LeBron wherever he lands in free agency?
