Why have our two worst OBP guys hit leadoff?

It's interesting that the two guys who have shared the leadoff position -- Young and Byrnes -- are the only two regulars who have on-base-percentages under .300.

But Orlando Hudson's .359 OBP is second on the team only to Jackson. And Orlando's BB-to-K ratio of 30 to 51 is also second to Jackson (the only regular who has walked more than he has struck out).

Does Melvin needs to get hit with a ton of bricks before he realizes that Hudson should be leading off, to help the rest of the lineup (especially our young players) see pitches?

Tracy, Hudson and Jackson are at, or a few points over, .300. Reynolds 19 HR and 58 RBI's are impressive. But the rest of the lineup is marginal.

I can't say batting order, because the players come to the ballpark every game not knowing where they'll be hitting or what their role is.

This has been the case ever since Brenly and Melvin were Manager and Bench Coach. The damage it's done is reflected in the tremendous inconsistency on the team this year.

And the statistics sure seem to back that up.

I would love to see Melvin just stick with a lineup for one week and see what happens hell it might help with chemistry on this team. It is huge having Tracy back he is a good with some decent power and can get hits with guys on base same with reyonlds. I think Drew is our best leadoff man he has ok speed and has a pretty good eye at the plate and doesn't strike to often, or heck we could try Hudson he hardly ever strikes out.

I think we've been struggling to get on base because our hitters can't make contact and when they do it's often a pop-up. No true leadoff hitter is one of the things keeping us from scoring runs.

I agree with BC867 that Hudson should be that guy, followed by Jackson, but alas the O-Dawg refuseth.

Should he be representing the team?

Why in the world is an underachieving, overpaid, inconsistent, out for the season Eric Byrnes representing the D'backs in an article on their MLB site, talking about "these guys" trying to become consistent?

Big picture, this is still a very stable group of players we just need to play better. As for a fundamental change of direction, I don't think so.

That doesn't mean that we're going to sit idly by while there's adjustments we can make or in how Bob and the coaches get these guys to be more consistent. It's not a process of reinvention.
He doesn't want a change of direction. But then he refers to adjustments we can make. Then says it's not a process of reinvention.

Is he advocating the status quo or is he not? And, of all people, why is he the one doing it on the team's site? With his wild one-handed uppercut swings and somersaults in the outfield, he is hardly part of the solution.

Byrnes has plenty of time to talk right now. Might as well bother him instead of someone with actual work to do.

Another day. More indecision from Melvin.

Today is Saturday, and the article reads that Justin Upton was placed retroactively on the disabled list until next Thursday, which is five days from now.

It says, "Melvin indicated, for now, outfielder Alex Romero will get the bulk of the time in right field ..."

Then it says, "... but added that Chris Burke and Emilio Bonifacio could get starts."

In one breath, Melvin says that over the next five days, Romero will get the bulk of the time. Then indicates that he is just one of three.

No wonder our young players don't know where they stand from day to day. No wonder they underperform.

Romero is hitting .250. Chris Burke is hitting .186. Emilio Bonifacio is hitting .167. How difficult is it to make a decision and build confidence in the young Alex Romero?

Bob Melvin hedges on every decision before he reaches the end of his paragraph, no matter how minor.

He is a classic passive-aggressive personality. Riding the fence on every decision.

Thirty coaches and players are prisoners to it. And it gets worse every day.

Bob Melvin is a career Bench Coach -- a go-fer. He should not be occupying a position of leadership, here or anywhere else.

How many careers of young players are going to be ruined before the owner and the GM take action? Add Alex Romero to the long list. Upton, Young, Scherzer, the ones we've traded away, etc.

I can't help :deadhorse2: until it happens.

And Romero is tagging the crap out of the ball. Another double in first at bat tonight.
