Why was Evgeni Malkin ejected?
Malkin was ejected for a violent slash on Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin.
Here's how it looked:

Dahlin had led into the action with a couple firm cross checks, and Malkin spun around and whacked him.
Malkin then looked as if he wanted to fight, but Dahlin was clearly already in pain.
Will Evgeni Malkin be suspended?
It's certainly a possibility.
He's been suspended in 2022 (four games) for a cross check in the face, and one game in 2019 for “an intentional stick swing with force for the purpose of retaliation," according to The Athletic.
Prior history won't help Malkin's cause here.
