Javier Mascherano’s time at Inter Miami came to an unexpected end despite recent success with the club.

The Argentine guided the team to the MLS Cup in December 2025, marking the biggest achievement in the club’s history.

Given his strong relationship with Lionel Messi and the momentum built from that triumph, his resignation this Tuesday came as a surprise.

Mascherano confirmed his decision in an official statement, explaining the reasoning behind his exit from the role.

“I want to let everyone know that, for personal reasons, I have decided to end my tenure as head coach of Inter Miami CF,” he began by saying.

The former midfielder also took time to reflect on his spell at the club and express gratitude to those involved.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank the Club for the trust they placed in me, every employee who is part of the organization for the collective effort, but especially the players, who made it possible for us to experience unforgettable moments.

“I also want to thank the fans and La Familia, because none of this would have been possible without them. I will always carry with me the memory of our first star, and wherever I am, I will continue to wish the Club all the best moving forward. I have no doubt that the Club will continue to achieve success in the future.”

The statement provided little additional detail, leaving his departure open to interpretation beyond the personal reasons cited.
