Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter is going to meet with another NFC East team about the possibility of leaving for a bump in responsibility.
Cooter is scheduled to meet with the Giants, a league source told IndyStar on Thursday, to interview for the offensive coordinator job.
While the title would be the same as the one he’s held in Indianapolis for three seasons, the job’s duties would be different. New Giants head coach John Harbaugh does not call the plays, meaning a shift to New York would allow Cooter to call plays for the first time in several years.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen calls the plays in Indianapolis.
The Colts do not want to lose Cooter, a source indicated, but he has now been interviewed for positions in Philadelphia and New York because of the chance to call plays.

Cooter received a lot of praise from Steichen during the Colts’ run to 8-2, when a healthy Daniel Jones had the Indianapolis offense running on all cylinders.
“I just think Jim Bob does a phenomenal job with the offense week in and week out, getting those guys ready to go,” Steichen said in October. “It's top notch, and the detail that goes into it, from a preparation standpoint, that he does with those guys.”
Calling plays adds another line to Cooter’s list of qualifications.
Cooter called plays in Detroit from 2016 to 2018. He spent the next two seasons with the Jets as the team’s running backs coach, then spent a year with Steichen and Nick Sirianni in Philadelphia as a consultant, another year in Jacksonville as the team’s passing game coordinator and finally took over as the Indianapolis offensive coordinator under Steichen in 2023.
New York’s offensive coordinator job opened up again after Cleveland’s hire of Todd Monken as head coach this week. Monken was expected to follow Harbaugh to New York, but his shift to the Browns leaves the Giants job open.
