Conference USA Football Kickoff and Media Day began on Monday, July 20. All conference teams participated in an ESPN+ show featuring head coaches and players from each school.
Missouri State’s Casey Woods, along with tight end Jeron Askren and linebacker Jared Lloyd, were in attendance.
One of Woods’ big talking points was institutional alignment. It’s what has him most excited besides the game of football itself. From the top of the university to his staff, Woods spoke on how everyone is on the same page entering the new year.
There are three big things Woods alluded to when discussing the values of his program.
“We’ve got real vision. We want to win the conference, we want to recruit better than it’s ever been done before and we want to turn our stadium into a hard place to play,” Woods said. “When you have those three things, you have a chance to develop momentum.”

This is the blueprint for Woods in his first season in charge of the Bears. It all starts with Woods, who has real excitement for the university. It’s not fake; through the broadcast, his passion for Missouri State football was quite evident.
“It’s an unbelievable time to be a resident in the city of Springfield,” he said. “I’m the new guy; I haven’t won any games yet. But I think we have a great product, we have a great team, and we have a great opportunity to ascend rapidly."
Local media will have a chance to speak with Woods on Tuesday, July 21.
