Why Aces are parting ways with Chennedy Carter in surprise roster move originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

Chennedy Carter returned to the WNBA this season and was scoring the basketball well in the early going for the Las Vegas Aces.

Turns out, though, that her confusing basketball journey has another chapter to add: The Aces have waived her.

The official WNBA transaction log lists Carter as having been waived to make room for signing 6-foot-4 rookie Justine Pissott. Carter can now be claimed by another team off waivers, or eventually reach free agency.

It's a bit of a shock, to be sure.

Carter was averaging 12.2 points per game this season and had gotten off to a really hot start when the season tipped off.

Why did the Aces get rid of Chennedy Carter?

There isn't an immediately reported single reason, but it's clear the Aces had been trending in this direction.

In Carter's last five games, she had played 8 minutes, 8 minutes, 16 minutes, 11 minutes and 15 minutes.

She also sat out five games in that stretch, so she wasn't playing much, and even when she did, it wasn't much.

Yes, it's a big downturn from early in the season, and that's hard to figure out.

But the limitations in Carter's game and her fit with the Aces were apparently too much to keep her around for her microwave scoring ability off the bench.
