The contract caught the eye immediately.

Did that say $39 million for Dean Wade? A four-year contract from the Philadelphia 76ers to the former Cleveland Cavaliers forward felt like a lot.

That's what the 'Sixes gave Wade, though, according to ESPN's Shams Charania in a post on X on Tuesday night.

Wade has some solid attributes, and it's less than $10 million per year, but it's still fascinating.

Why did the 76ers sign Dean Wade?

Wade's main attribute is his defense.

He was who the Cavs used most to guard Cade Cunningham when they played the Detroit Pistons in the playoffs, for example.

Wade can also make 3-pointers, although he mostly stopped shooting by his late days with the Cavs.

And his rate actually isn't that bad for a clear rotation player with big-game experience.

Why did the Cavs let Dean Wade leave?

The Cavs are trying to clear a bit of room against their books.

It's unlikely they would've paid Wade this much to keep him.

Whether the reduced salary helps them get LeBron James or something else, it probably makes sense to get rid of Wade.

He loses a bit of value in the postseason thanks to his lack of ability as a shot maker. Still, he could be useful for the 76ers.
