Haren and it isn't even close. Cy Young pitchers are a 100 times more valuable than slugging OFs.

Agreed, plus Haren has proven over multiple years that he's this level of player. Who knows if Quentin is just having one career year, or if he ever would've broken out here in AZ?

If the question was "Who would you rather have, Eric Byrnes or Carlos Quentin", then I think Quentin would be leading the pole.

Dan Haren by far. Unfortunately, we'll never know whether or not it was an either/or proposition though.

Why are we given this false dichotomy? Quentin wasn't traded for Haren, Chris Carter was.

Also, shouldn't it be something like Haren and Eric Byrnes or Quentin and "FA pitcher A" if we're even assuming the direct exchange?

This isn't a false dichotomy. How did we get Chris Carter? By trading CQ.

and the only way to get Chris Carter was by trading CQ? There is NO WAY we could have ended up with both Haren and Quentin? If it was a strait trade CQ for DH then yeah, great question, but it wasn't even close to that.

Well, we will never know, but to me, it seems that way...

Billy Beane wanted a 1B prospect and supposedly gave the D-Backs a list of prospects they would take. He didn't want 2 OF prospects in Quentin and Gonzalez. So we traded Quentin for Carter who was turned around and sent to the A's.

So as far as the question goes, its pretty fair to ask if you would trade Quentin for Haren cause from the information we know....it did take Quentin to get Haren.

I am fully aware of how the whole thing went down, intimately aware. What I have not seen is anyone show where Quentin and only Quentin HAD to be dealt for Chris Carter.

I've also said that if you're going to accept that that's the way it had to be, then it would be fair to include more than just Quentin compared to Haren. Carlos Gonzalez, Brett Anderson, and Dana Eveland were also involved. It's just an extremely myopic POV to consider is what I'm saying.

Haren by a long shot.

This pitching staff was immediately improved with his acquisition.

Also, hindsight is 20-20.. However, we knew what we were getting when Haren was acquired by the Diamondbacks, while Quentin was still the man of mystery.

Plus, it's funny how things change, because 95 percent of you wanted Quentin gone and would have taken a bag of used jockstraps to get rid of him. A good majority of you also stated that Arizona HAD to re-sign Byrnes. A few went as far as saying they would question their loyalty to the organization if they didn't re-sign the "Face of the Franchise".

Funny what one year and a sudden development does to change the overall mentality eh?
