The Chicago Bears stunned the Green Bay Packers, with a 31-27 fourth-quarter comeback win in the wild card playoffs, and they now advance to the divisional round. But Chicago will have to wait a few hours to learn who they'll be facing in the second round.
One thing's for certain: The Bears will host at least one more playoff game at Soldier Field, which gives them a decided advantage, especially after how the fans impacted the game late in their win over the Packers. There are two options for Chicago: Host a cold-weather team who's at their best in the playoffs or host a warm-weather team with a high-powered offense.
After advancing to the divisional round, the Bears will learn who they will face in the next round depending on the outcome of a late Sunday afternoon matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. Here are the two possible opponents for Chicago in the next round of the postseason:
A date with MVP frontrunner Matthew Stafford and the Rams could be on the docket for the Bears. After seeing what Brock Purdy and the 49ers offense did to Chicago's defense back in Week 17, it's certainly a concern. But the good news is that Los Angeles would have to come to what's sure to be a frigid Soldier Field and deal with a Bears fanbase that made a huge difference in their win over the Packers.
A potential rematch of the Bears' Black Friday statement win over the Eagles is waiting in the wings. This time, it would shift to Chicago. The Bears dominated the Eagles in the trenches, totaling 281 rushing yards in a 24-15 win where the game wasn't even as close as the final score indicated. But it's difficult to beat a team twice in a season, and Chicago's run game has stalled in the last couple of weeks. Still, the Bears showed they're capable of beating this Philadelphia team, and this time they'd have a raucous Soldier Field at their backs.
If the 49ers defeat the Eagles, they'll face the Seahawks in the divisional round, which would send the Rams to Soldier Field for a divisional playoff matchup. But if the Eagles win, Philadelphia travels to Chicago for a rematch of a Black Friday stunner.
