Perhaps one of the best aspects of sports is the human element. Statistics and metrics are all well and good, but there's also the eye test. The eye test is subjective, based on people's experience and knowledge. So when it comes to analyzing draft picks, it truly depends on who is doing the analyzing as to what the report will be.

For instance, ESPN's Field Yates recently said that the Washington Commanders' selection of running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt was one of his favorite picks in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL draft. In a different report, CBS Sports' Josh Edwards said that this was a questionable pick.

Washington took five players and each were taken in the expected range or later. There is no issue with where Croskey-Merritt was taken either but he is an older running back prospect who was limited to one game played in 2024.

Croskey-Merritt was limited in playing time in 2024 due to eligibility issues, but he was projected to go in the fifth round and the Commanders nabbed him in the seventh. Seems like a pretty solid pick up considering his skill level and the likelihood that he'll be a solid backup who could eventually become a starter.

The reason this was a questionable pick for the Commanders is that none of the other picks were in any way questionable. Croskey-Merritt has time to prove that he was worth the pick, and he likely will.
