CHEBOYGAN — What a phenomenal year it was for girls sports in the Cheboygan area.
The beauty of it was that every single school from this area saw at least one squad have a successful campaign during the 2025-26 school year. Now, here’s an opportunity for readers to vote on who they think was the best girls squad in the area this past year.

CHEBOYGAN-AREA SPRING SEASON: Great memories and moments, Cheboygan-area spring season was a blast
BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR: I-L's Ty Kolly is Daily Tribune's 2026 baseball player of the year
The poll opens on Monday morning, July 6, and closes at 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 9. In this poll, one team from each school will be represented.
Cheboygan Volleyball – In coach Jordan Barrette’s first season, the Chiefs finished 29-7-3, took second in the Northern Shores Conference, and won two weekend tournament titles. The Chiefs were led by the likes of Makaela Steiner, Presley Chamberlain, Tessa Lake and Diem Schley.
Inland Lakes Basketball – Under coach Daryl Vizina, the Bulldogs won a first-ever regional championship, a fourth consecutive district title, and earned second in the Ski Valley Conference. Chloe Robinson, Mary Myshock, Addison Byrne and Ava Belford led the way.
Mackinaw City Softball – During her first coaching season, Erica France guided the Comets to a first Northern Lakes Conference title since 2022. Ella Kruczynski, Emily Kruczynski, Poppy Wallace and Kenzlie Currie were all part of this successful Comets’ team.
Onaway Softball – Winning a second consecutive district title was head coach Lonny Metty’s Cardinals, led by Marley Szymoniak, Carley Karsten, Natalee Hyde and Aleigha Garms.
Pellston Softball – Coach Dena Moore’s Hornets experienced the thrill of winning a first district crown since 2023 on their home field. Helping the Hornets get there were Ella Klungle, Breanna Willis, Lanie Irwin, Allie Cameron and several others.
NMCA Basketball – Capturing the Northern Lakes Conference title was coach Josh Ferraiuolo’s Eagles, whose daughters Lauren and Shanna Ferraiuolo were among those talented players leading the way.
