Jabe Boroff has been on a tear as of late for Troy baseball.

The Pike Road native and Macon-East alum took home the Most Outstanding Player honors after Troy won the Gainesville Regional, going 10-of-20 at the plate with 12 RBIs, six runs scored and four home runs.

He continued that hot streak in Game One of the super regional series with Little Rock. Boroff hit two home runs, including a grand slam, adding six more RBIs. Now he's being called Jabe Ruth by fans as he looks to power his Trojans into the College World Series.

Here's what you need to know about Boroff:

Jabe Ruth nickname origin with Troy baseball

According to the Troy media guide, the nickname took off during the Gainesville Regional as Jabe Ruth heated up during the four Trojan wins. The nickname has stuck, with Troy using it on social media with his highlight home runs. It is unclear, beyond Boroff's power and a first name that rhymes with longtime home run king Babe Ruth's, where the nickname started.

Boroff wasn't starting in May

Boroff started opening day but went over a month without a start when he fell into a cold streak. Coming into a May 9 game with South Alabama, Boroff was hitting .125 with just one home run, but had to start due to injuries to other players. Since then, he has hit north of .325 with 29 RBIs and 10 home runs. Troy has gone on a 13-4 run across those games.

Like many stars at the mid-major level, Boroff went the junior college route. He shined at Enterprise State, just a short drive south from Troy. He won two Alabama triple crowns with the Boll Weevils as he batted .452 with 62 RBIs and 20 home runs as a sophomore. The 20 homeruns were fifth in all of junior college baseball.
