The final week of the winter high school sports regular season is upon us in the Greater Taunton area.
Last week, a Bridgewater-Raynham wrestler had a top six finish in her Mixed Division weight class at the MIAA Division 1 South Sectionals while Taunton indoor track had a top 10 finisher at the Division 1 Championship and Bridgewater-Raynham basketball claimed a share of the inaugural Pioneer Athletic Conference crown.
The Taunton Daily Gazette High School Girls Athlete of the Week for Feb. 2-8 is Dighton-Rehoboth basketball's Alyssa Daniels, receiving 63% of the vote. Bridgewater-Raynham basketball's Ashley Varnum came in second with 35% while Bridgewater-Raynham/West Bridgewater gymnastics' Natalia Flores received 1% to finish third.
Now is your chance to choose the Taunton Daily Gazette High School Girls Athlete of the Week for Feb. 9-15, with polls open through noon, Sunday, Feb. 22. Only players from teams that submitted stats to the Gazette or made them readily available online can be featured in this poll. Scores and stats can be submitted via email to [email protected]. Who is the Taunton Daily Gazette H.S. Girls Athlete of the Week for Feb. 9-15?
Forrester had 20 points against Milford.
Strandberg had a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds, as well as 5 blocks, against Newton South.
Ericson had 12 points against Case.
Mello had 17 points against Fairhaven.
Davis finished sixth overall in the 113 lb. weight class at the MIAA Division 1 South Sectionals.
Olaniyan finished seventh overall in the shot put (33 feet 3.25 inches) at the MIAA Division 1 Championship.
Avery Pham finished 11th overall (12:45.52) in the 2 mile at the MIAA Division 5 Championship.
Mulcahy finished 21st overall in the 200 yard freestyle (2:09.31) at the MIAA Division 1 Championship.
