SEATTLE — After everything that went down during the U.S. men's national team's last game, there may be some extra eyes on the referee for its World Cup round of 16 match against Belgium on Monday, July 6.
Referee Raphael Claus was in the center of a firestorm for his decision to send Folarin Balogun off against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
That red card has kicked off an even bigger controversy after FIFA's last-minute decision to allow Balogun to play against Belgium.
Now Adham Makhadmeh will step into the spotlight for Monday's game at Lumen Field. The experienced Jordanian official will take charge of the match between the U.S. and Belgium, assisted by his countrymen Mohammad Al-Kalaf and Ahmad Al-Roalle.
This will be the fourth game of this World Cup for Makhadmeh, who has also taken charge of group-stage matches between Spain and Cape Verde, as well as New Zealand and Belgium. He also officiated England's win over DR Congo in the round of 32.
