We’ve all seen the latest prospect rankings that cast the Phillies farm system in a rather dim light. We all know that they don’t have much in the way of ammunition to acquire upgrades at this upcoming trade deadline.
But that doesn’t mean they won’t be sending any of their prospects out in a deal over the next week and some change. Dave Dombrowski likely won’t be shopping in the Jhoan Duran tier of the market as he did a year ago, but Dombrowski and the Phillies are certain to be heavily involved in the Harrison Bader tier of the market to put it in 2025 terms. They will likely be targeting rentals which of course come with less cost in prospect capital than players with multiple years of control.
It can’t be ruled out that the likes of Gage Wood or Aidan Miller could be moved, but it feels extremely unlikely, especially in Miller’s case due to injury. Once you get into the Ramon Marquez, Dante Nori, and Aroon Escobar tier of the Phillies system though, it’s extremely likely that at least a couple of players will be moved. Again, there’s not much in the way of trade bait for a big fish, but there’s enough to find moderate upgrades if the opportunity cost is weighed correctly. The Phillies have enough glaring holes that even a mid-tier upgrade could go a long way to increasing their win total and therefore their chances at the division title or the postseason in general.
So, who is the Phillies prospect most likely to be moved at the deadline? Does your prediction align with what you would do if you were in charge of the deadline?
