If you're one of the thousands of Americans who took an interest in soccer because of the World Cup, it might seem like that journey is over after the USMNT fell to Belgium 4-1 in the Round of 16.
But while the journey is over for the United States, there are still nearly two weeks of competition to be played, and after the last two games of the Round of 16 on Tuesday, eight teams will remain in the fight for the title.
Even when the World Cup is over, fans can still follow their favorite players as they head back to their club teams. Major League Soccer, the American professional league, returns on July 16, while most European leagues come back in August or September. The majority of U.S. players currently play in Europe, though some major stars like Lionel Messi and Heung-min Son now play in the United States.
Here's who's still playing in the World Cup and how to follow your favorite USMNT in their club teams.
Morocco was the first team to clinch its spot in the quarter-finals, defeating co-hosts Canada 3-0, but the Atlas Lions have no easy task ahead of them. The Moroccans will play 2018 champions and 2022 runners-up France, led by Kylian Mbappé. France struggled to get past Paraguay, but a 70th-minute penalty was enough to send them through.
In the second quarterfinal, Erling Haaland's Norway will face Harry Kane's England in a battle of two of the best strikers in the world. Norway upset five-time champions Brazil with two goals from Haaland in the last 11 minutes. England survived the Mexico City altitude to defeat co-hosts Mexico 3-2, despite being one man down.
In one of the most anticipated games of the tournament so far, Spain scored a last-minute goal to send Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal home and move forward to its first quarterfinals since 2010, when the Spaniards won their first and only title. Spain will face Belgium, who dominated the United States in a 4-1 win, officially sending all three of the host nations home.
The final quarterfinal matchup will be between the winner of Argentina vs. Egypt and Switzerland vs. Colombia, both games played on Tuesday, July 7.
Six players in the USMNT World Cup roster play club soccer in the MLS, while all others play abroad.
