More players are committing to the LSU Tigers under the tutelage of coach Will Wade, and their most recent addition serves as another international prospect joining the fray. On Wednesday, May 20, college basketball analyst Jon Rothstein confirmed on X/Twitter that Croatian big man Michael Ruzic has committed to the Tigers for the 2026-27 season.

This is now the 10th public commitment to coach Wade’s upcoming roster. Ruzic, as mentioned, is a 7-footer that hails from Croatia. This past season, though, he played for Joventut in Spain’s Liga ACB, and has been with the team since the 2023-24 campaign.

Appearing in 25 games, Ruzic averaged 6.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks per contest. At just 19 years old, Ruzic is the youngest commitment to the Louisiana-based program so far this offseason.

Ruzic actually entered his name into last year’s NBA Draft, but decided to withdraw right before the deadline that would have eliminated his college eligibility, if decided to go that route. A year later, Ruzic will be entering college basketball for the first time with Will Wade as his coach. Under the tutelage of a new coach and its slew of recent player commitments, LSU hopes to make it into the national tournament next season.

Will Wade said that the LSU Tigers are prioritizing recruiting international players this offseason

Michael Ruzic’s commitment to the LSU Tigers follows other international players with professional experience who have already joined the team. These include Brazilian pro Marcio Santos, Italian pro Saliou Niang, and French pro Brice Dessert. In an interview with Jon Rothstein in early May, Will Wade said that the emphasis for his team this offseason is to recruit more international players.

“This year, I’m going to lean a little heavier on the international route. I think that, you know, this is the last that a lot of kids over there are going to be eligible. Some of the older kids are going to be eligible because of the clock issues. So, this will be the last year some of those guys will be eligible. So, we’re going to lean a little heavier on the international route. Just those kids have a lot of experience,” Wade shared. (12:48)
