Who is Andy Green? Mets replace Carlos Mendoza with interim manager originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Mets reached their breaking point on Friday, firing manager Carlos Mendoza, according to a report from the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
Mendoza was in his third season with the NL East club. The Mets fell short of the postseason in 2025 and are on their way to another disappointing finish.
At 34-47, the Mets have the third-worst record in the National League with the highest payroll in the Majors.
Clearly, a change was needed.
Who is replacing Mendoza as New York's manager?
According to Heyman, the Mets have named Andy Green their interim manager. Green was with the Mets in a player development role.
Who is Andy Green?
Green, 48, is a former MLB infielder, spending parts of three seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2004-06. He also played four games with the Mets in 2009.
In the dugout, Green managed the San Diego Padres from 2016-19.
His other former positions in baseball include third base coach for the Diamondbacks and bench coach for the Chicago Cubs.
As manager of the Padres, Green led the NL West club to a 274-366 record in four seasons. San Diego did not make the postseason in any of those years.
