Alabama men’s basketball coach Nate Oats married a second time over the weekend, three years after quietly ending his 26-year marriage.
Oats wed former Crimson Tide staffer Alex Accetta over the weekend according to a social media post from Alabama assistant coach Brian Adams.
Adams shared a photo from the ceremony that included Oats, Accetta, Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne and several current and former Crimson Tide staff members.
Oats shared the new of the engagement during an April 3 appearance on SiriusXM’s college sports channel, offering a rare glimpse into his personal life. The engagement has drawn attention, given Accetta’s previous role within Alabama’s men’s basketball program.
Nate Oats has been Alabama’s men’s basketball coach since 2019, leading the program to national prominence.
Under Oats, the Crimson Tide have made multiple deep NCAA tournament runs, including their first-ever Final Four appearance in 2024, while also winning multiple SEC regular-season and tournament titles.
Before Alabama, Oats was the head coach at Buffalo, where he led the program to three NCAA Tournament appearances. He previously coached at the high school level in Michigan.
Oats was married to ex-wife Crystal since 1997, and they had three daughters together: Lexie, Jocelyn and Brielle. Crystal was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 2015. After undergoing aggressive treatment, she went into remission in 2016.
Accetta previously worked on Alabama’s men’s basketball staff in several roles.
She began as a student assistant in 2015, then served as an operations coordinator from 2017 to 2021. She was later promoted to director of basketball operations, where she oversaw logistics including team travel, scheduling, budgeting and program events.
Accetta was among a small number of women working in support or coaching roles in major men’s college basketball programs.
She left Alabama in 2022 and now works for the Dallas Mavericks in a guest experience role according to her LinkedIn profile.
Oats disclosed the engagement during his April 3 SiriusXM interview, referring to Accetta as his fiancée while recounting a past experience:
“Me and Alex— my fiancée now, she was my girlfriend at the time — we were at a Knicks playoff game, and I’m sitting there at [Madison Square] Garden,” Oats said, via 247 Sports. “I’m like, ‘Hold on.’ I’m a high school coach and I got an opportunity to coach in here and I’m gonna say no?”
