One of Clemson’s emerging defensive stars will be front and center when the ACC officially kicks off the 2026 football season.
The conference announced Wednesday that linebacker Sammy Brown has been selected to attend ACC Football Kickoff with head coach Dabo Swinney. He’ll be joined by defensive end Will Heldt and tight end Olsen Patt-Henry when the annual preseason event takes place July 15-17 in Charlotte.
Brown’s inclusion comes as little surprise after he quickly became one of the Tigers’ most recognizable young defenders. Heldt, one of Clemson’s key offseason additions, also earned the opportunity before ever playing a game in orange, while Patt-Henry gives the offense veteran representation heading into preseason camp.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway from Clemson’s delegation is who’s missing. After several consecutive years of sending its starting quarterback, the Tigers opted for a different approach this summer. Instead of Cade Klubnik making another appearance, Clemson will be represented by a pair of defensive players and its veteran tight end, marking the program’s first ACC Kickoff without a quarterback since 2019.
The conference’s annual media gathering brings together all 17 head coaches along with selected players from each program to preview the upcoming season. Clemson’s scheduled media day falls on Thursday, July 16, when Swinney and the three Tigers will spend the day meeting with reporters from around the league.
The event also signals that football season is drawing closer, as ACC Kickoff traditionally serves as the bridge between the offseason and the start of preseason practice. Live coverage from Charlotte will air on ACC Network throughout all three days of the event.
