I've watched McGee play a lot and he would be decent. A good bench player to spell Amare from time to time but that's about it.

I am biased since I am a Nevada alum, but if the Suns pass on McGee, they will regret it. McGee is still a year or so away from being truly NBA ready, but he runs like a gazelle and is a tremendous shotblocker. He has good skills, and will be a heck of a player in this league. I think he has the ability to be a Marcus Camby-type that will be very active and put up great rebounding an block numbers. He has a nice jump shot and finishes well around the basket.

I really wished he would have stayed on more year, as I think Nevada has a chance to be really good next year. However, it is hard to be mad at a guy that has a chance to be set for life. When you see him in person, his physical gifts are pretty special.

Im down with thabeet and mcgee, and if Batum can get a consistent 3 ball, I think he would be a great replacement for hill in a few years.

the only highlights of him i can find are of him dunking on little white guys. anyone know of film of him against unc?

looks like a good athlete. long. nice form on his jumper and hook. but never looks like he has to work hard given the mismatches he faces in all the highlights.

This is to "The Kid"...you say "Okay" to DeAndre Jordan but "I'll Pass" on JaVale McGee? For those who have watched both players play consistantly, would know that McGee is the better of the two now AND has more upside than Jordan does.

Like I mentioned on the Trade board, McGee is my top prospect (at least in the projected pick range of 10+) for the Suns. RealGM compares him to Andrew Bynum and Patrick O'Bryant. However, if you watch him play, he is more comparable to Rasheed Wallace. He has close to the same frame as Wallace and has the range and similar shooting range. McGee is extending his range to the college 3. He also has Rasheed's high release point on his shot. He has great athleticism, quickness, rebounding, HANDS, shot blocking, and passing abilities. The major knock on him is his weight (237lbs), and another knock on him is he tends to get frustrated wehn he doesn't get calls. He would be much better at around 260-270 without losing his quickness and athleticism. I also compare him to Amare in the sense of his nastiness, quickness and athleticism, and to a fair share comparable to Amare's pension for getting frustrated by no calls in his first couple of years. Yes Amare still gets upset with the refs when calls don't go his way, but his frustration doesn't hurt his game now. I feel he would be the perfect, 7 foot compliment in the blocks next to Amare, subbing in for Shaq now and his eventual replacement.

give me hansbrough every day of the week if he's on the board. kid is the definition of toughness and persistence. he won't wow you with his athletic ability, but he can get a team fired up like nobody else and he has great game on top of it. it sucks that he's a little undersized though, so there isn't much of a future for him at center.

he's more athletic than tim duncan, that's for sure.

anyway one analyst compared him to battier. battier was a PF in college who worked mainly on the block and he had the same build as hansbrough does. battier came to the nba and turned into a lockdown perimeter defender and a good 3-point shooter. i would love to have a guy like that as well.

i really think donte would fit in well with the suns. that being said i think he was SOOOO DUMB for leaving early. he needs to learn to do things with the ball on the drive, and learn to play defense. both things boeheim teaches. stupid to leave early. but take him and coach him.

If the Suns select Hansbrough, I'd shoot myself in the foot. The guy is a late first round pick and nothing more. Maybe worse than that. Who is he going to post up in the NBA? He'll get used and abused.

He seems pretty athletic.

Hes a small power forward who probably isnt skilled enough to guard any power forwards in the NBA, and he definitely isn't athletic enough to guard any small forwards in the NBA. So he's a bench player who can't really shoot well or post up any NBA players. Great pick eh?

Javale McGee http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/javalemcgee.html

Strengths: Long athletic bigman who is absolutely bursting with potential … Runs the floor exceptionally well … Improving at a rapid pace on both ends of the floor. Has freakishly long arms: around a 7-6 wingspan which makes him a great rebounder and shot blocker … Can really become a force defensively when he adds strength and discipline on opponent's shot fakes … His length makes it extremely difficult for opponents to get shots over … His offensive game is showing a lot of promise with developing back to the basket skills. He even shows some ability to face the basket and make drives or spot up … Has a competitive spirit that is not apparent in many bigmen who picked up the game because of their size. A late bloomer who went underrecruited out of Chicago. McGee's parents were both professional basketball players so he has been around the game from a young age … Shows solid form and touch on his shot … Has a tremendous frame which should allow him to get much stronger and retain his great agility and athleticism … Gives great effort and shows very good stamina for a bigman his age … Added strength will give him better balance and make him a lot more effective imposing his will inside … Has the potential to be a top 5-10 center in the league someday (if he's patient about entering the NBA) … Has even shown the ability to knock down shots from college 3, no question influenced by the presence of Nick Fazekas last year …

Weaknesses: Still must gain maturity. He gets frustrated far too easily and loses his composure quickly when calls go against him, or when he's struggling … Still growing into his body and game, learning what he's capable of and steadily becoming a factor night in and night out … Needs to develop some go to moves. A reliable jump hook would make him an absolute force … Must improve from the free throw line (50% won't cut it). He has solid shooting touch and should be able to raise his FT shooting to at least 70-75 percent over time if he develops a consistent routine and works at it … Should be wary of leaving school early. It's likely he would be a first rounder this year, but a third year in college would really help him in the long run as he would be much better prepared for the NBA and not run the risk of losing confidence and falling short of his full potential …

Notes: McGee's parents were both professional basketball players. His father, George Montgomery starred at Illinois and was a second-round draft pick in 1985 by the Portland Trailblazers. His mother Pamela McGee, and her twin sister, Paula, were All-Americans who led USC to NCAA National titles in 1983 and 1984 … Pamela also played and coached in the WNBA and is now a high school coach in Sacramento … In JaVale's freshman season he saw little playing time playing behind WAC player of the year and NBA draft pick Nick Fazekas.

Put this guy with Amare and Shaq for a year, watch him turn into a star.

he's every ounce as big as antawn jamison, one of the better power forwards in the league today. his one on one defense is pefectly okay, though his shot blocking leaves something to be desired. like i mentioned earlier, people said all of the same things about battier back in his college days and he turned out to be a wonderful perimeter player. he shoots pretty well actually. he can hit the college 3 with pretty good accuracy. his post game could work just fine in the nba IMO. he'd be a pretty good pick in the late first round. he didn't earn player of the year for nothing, you know.

Jamison is leagues above him athletically. Pretty bad comparison. And have you ever seen Tyler play D? It's not any good. I'll give you the player of the year stuff. I like Tyler's work ethic, he isnt a complete waste. Plus he is a great team player and you always need those guys around.

Ill bang my head into the concrete if that happens. Budinger keeps getting tabbed as a first round pick, and I don't understand why. He seems like a good pick in maybe the late first round, but more, in the 2nd round. He's just been really lousy this year, I hope the Suns don't take him. In the NBA he probably plays the 2 guard, and thats not even a position of need for the Suns.

Phoenix ought to concentrate on Centers, Point Guards and Small Forwards (Budinger could maybe play the 3, but he seems like more of a big 2 to me).

DeAndre Jordan, Javale McGee, Anthony Randolph, Darren Collison and DJ Augistine are on my (very) early (and subject to change) short list.

i'll take a center any day over budinger. i watched a couple games this year, i wasn't incredibly impressed. his defense was like nash's- he has a willingness to play it but he just can't do it very well. His offense wasn't all that spectacular either, though his shot looked nice. IMO he's the next wally szcerbiak (probably not spelled correctly). Give me a player with some real potential.

By the way, i say a few mock drafts earlier in the year that had us taking augustine from texas in the first round. i would hate hate HATE that. that guy is not going to be more than a bench player in the nba. we need to draft some defensive big to pair with amare for the future.
