The Miami Heat are one team expected to make a franchise-swinging trade this offseason. The big name consistently brought up is Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has been included in trade talks all season long. However, if the Heat want to add some contributors without parting with too much talent, there are some more under-the-radar names who the Heat could look to add. Here are a few of those names to keep an eye on this offseason:
1. Jalen Smith, Chicago Bulls
Smith had a rocky start to his NBA career. The No. 10 overall pick of the 2020 draft, Smith has lofty expectations as a rookie with the Phoenix Suns. He didn't appear for the team much his rookie season due to the Suns' fantastic season and with DeAndre Ayton as the starter but quickly drew excitement due to his ability as a defender. Despite showing some potential during the first half of the 2021-22 season, he was dealt to the Indiana Pacers and signed an extension quickly after. During his second season in Indiana, he excelled as a shooter, shooting 59.2 percent from the field and 42.4 percent from three-point range. He signed with the Bulls prior to the 2024 season on a three-year deal worth $27 million and Chicago could decide to deal him this offseason entering the final year of his contract. If the Heat move on from Kel'el Ware as part of any trade, Smith is more than a serviceable option to back up or potentially even play alongside Bam Adebayo.
2. Dejounte Murray, New Orleans Pelicans
Murray was once viewed as one of the best two-way guards in the entire league but the past few seasons for the 2022 All-Star have not been the strongest. He returned to the court this season following his injury due to a torn Achilles suffered in January 2025. In the brief 14 games he played this season, Murray looked rehabilitated as a player, putting up 16.7 points, 6.4 assists and 5.4 rebounds. With the current outlook of the Heat's backcourt, Murray could be a real solid option to take over the starting point guard role this year. The Pelicans may sell most of their team this offseason and given Murray's age and decline from the player he was a few seasons ago, he may not be that expensive in a possible trade. He is under contract through 2028.
3. Justin Champagnie, Washington Wizards
Justin's brother, Julian, was an integral piece of the San Antonio Spurs' playoff run but he is quite a solid player as well. The Wizards are one team who no one knows what to expect this offseason. Anthony Davis could potentially be dealt and Trae Young is testing the open market in free agency. They could be sellers and Champagnie is in the middle of a cheap four-year, $10 million contract. His three-point splits declined this year compared to the 2024-25 season but with the Heat's need for a three-point shooting wing, there are far worse options than Champagnie who could be available in trade discussions.
