Since the MLB Futures Game came into existence back in 1999, the Chicago White Sox have received 44 selections to the roster by 39 unique players.

Among them are current White Sox players such as Colson Montgomery, Braden Montgomery, and Noah Schultz. There are franchise icons like Mark Buehrle and Bobby Jenks. Even current White Sox GM Chris Getz was selected to the Futures Game back in 2008 before going on to a seven-year MLB career.

And believe it or not, being selected to the Futures Game is usually a pretty good indicator that a player is going to reach the big leagues at some point. Out of the 39 different players who have represented the White Sox at least once in the Futures Game, 37 have reached MLB.

The only exceptions are Yoelqui Céspedes (2021) and Anderson Gomes (2006). And all of this is a pretty good sign for what's to come for infielder Caleb Bonemer.

Not only is Bonemer the top-ranked prospect in the White Sox farm system and the No. 16 prospect in all of baseball according to MLB Pipeline, but he's now the 40th unique player in franchise history to represent the White Sox in the MLB Futures Game.

The rosters were announced this week, and Bonemer is one of seven infielders on the American League roster. He is the only White Sox prospect who made the cut this year.

Bonemer made things look too easy earlier this season at High-A Winston-Salem. In 61 games, he had 15 doubles, 18 home runs, and a .937 OPS. Those are impressive numbers for anyone, but especially for a 20-year-old infielder who also has enough speed to steal 40 bases in just 181 professional games since being drafted.

The sky truly feels like the limit for Caleb Bonemer, and his rapid ascension into one of the best prospects in baseball, and a prospect who could make his MLB debut at some point in 2027, has significantly altered the long-term plans of the White Sox for all the right reasons.

It's not like the White Sox have much room on their infield, but a player like Bonemer is one who forces the issue. And while his numbers since being promoted to Double-A Birmingham aren't outstanding, it usually doesn't take him very long to figure out a new level and make the necessary adjustments.

I think we'll start to see that power return to Bonemer's game over the remainder of 2026. And I think Bonemer is in a good position to keep the trend going of White Sox Futures Game participants who end up making an impact in the major leagues.

The 2026 MLB All-Star Futures Game will be a seven-inning prospect showcase hosted at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. The game will be played on Sunday, July 12, at 11:00 a.m. CT.
