White Sox drop a spot in the power rankings after an up-and-down week originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
This past week was a tale of two halves for the Chicago White Sox. They took on the Boston Red Sox at home, but couldn't get much of anything going.
The Red Sox have been on a roll as of late, turning their season around, and they carried that momentum into the series in Chicago, taking all three games in the series.
However, Friday would prove to be a huge day for the White Sox as they welcomed back Munetaka Murakami from the IL, but he wasn't the biggest reason to celebrate on Friday against the Athletics.

Tristan Peters, who was picked up by the White Sox during the offseason after being DFA'd by the Tampa Bay Rays, had everything going for him at the plate on Friday. He became the seventh player in franchise history to hit for the cycle in the 14-1 win.
The team then carried that momentum into taking the next two games, completing the three-game sweep over the A's. But with a 3-3 record, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller bumps them down a spot from No. 8 to No. 9 in his latest power rankings.
"The White Sox ended up stuck in the middle of two teams heading in polar opposite directions, contributing to both the nine-game winning streak of the Red Sox and the nine-game losing streak of the Athletics. Though he didn't homer, Munetaka Murakami returned for the latter, more encouraging series, which began with a 14-1 win fueled by Tristan Peters hitting for the cycle. If you've been waiting for this team to fade, here's hoping you haven't been holding your breath."
The South Siders could be a much better team this second half with Murakami back, and they are going to have to be as the Cleveland Guardians have been breathing down their back in the division standings.
