White Sox's Munetaka Murakami pulled early due to hamstring injury originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
One of the bigger storylines of the offseason was the influx of Japanese talent that would make the move over to the MLB, with one of those players being Munetaka Murakami, who signed a two-year deal with the Chicago White Sox.
Life in America has gotten off to quite the hot start for the Japanese slugger, as he has smashed 20 home runs entering Friday night’s action, which is the joint second-highest amount this season, sharing the spot with Yordan Alvarez, and one deep shot back from Kyle Schwarber.
While his home run tally is high, it isn’t to undersell his consistency from the batter’s box, slashing a .242/.381/.566 statline, with his 41 RBIs being the highest in the National League.
Murakami’s early exit against Detroit
Friday night’s match against the Detroit Tigers was looking to be another productive night for the Japanese star, but it wouldn’t turn out to be that way, as he would exit the match due to right hamstring tightness, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

In a mid-game interview, Chicago manager Will Venable downplayed any worries about the decision to pull Murakami, explaining that the team doesn’t want him to aggravate it any further.
“Obviously, it grabbed on him; in that instance, you just want to make sure he’s alright and not push it,” Venable explained. “Obviously, with all our guys, we want to protect them and make sure they’re healthy.”
While there isn’t any update regarding the status of his injury, if Murakami were to miss time, it would be a certain loss for the White Sox, as he’s been their offensive talisman all season.
