GLENDALE – As June 1st approaches, the Arizona Cardinals are looking towards the possibility of trading away top edge rusher Josh Sweat. Reports came out on Tuesday of the franchise receiving trade calls for the 29-year-old, following murmurings of his unhappiness in Arizona. Coming off a 12-sack season in 2025, Sweat is expected to have a big trade market.
A deal after the June 1st date will save the Cardinals $10.9 million, making the next week open season for teams to send in their best offers. But, which teams should fans look out for in the Sweat sweepstakes.

Which teams are interested in a Sweat trade?
The most obvious team should be the Green Bay Packers. The destination is likely Sweat’s top choice because of defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. Outside of the $76 million contract, a massive reason Sweat signed with Arizona was because of his close relationship with Gannon. The duo were together with the Philadelphia Eagles and formed a tight relationship.

Despite, Sweat’s inferred preference, the Chicago Bears make much more sense. The franchise was in the market for an edge rusher and seemingly targeted Las Vegas Raiders’ Maxx Crosby. However, a trade never came to fruition, leading to the Crosby-Baltimore Ravens drama. His injury scare could lead the Bears, that were already in the market for a pass rusher, to pivot and look towards a less expensive option in Sweat.
Can’t discuss trades and not mention Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman. The 50-year-old is known for swindling for high-level talent. Sweat’s connection to Philly, playing seven years with the Eagles, makes the pairing obvious. Philadelphia had a solid pass rush, with Jalyx Hunt leading the team at 6.5 sacks, but no player stood out to take the unit to the next level.

Other teams like the Cincinnati Bengals or Dallas Cowboys could be looking to optimize their highly-paid quarterback’s prime by helping out the defense. However, the price is where many of those type of teams might bow out of the running. The Cardinals should aim for a third-round pick for Sweat, who was eighth in sacks last season. The money attached to the Pro Bowler could damper that price to a fourth-round pick.
