It’s time to lock in. The playoffs are here.

Postseason softball is the best kind of softball, but before we go through two weeks of the most fun part of the season, it’s time to honor the players who made the biggest impact in the 2026 RIIL softball regular season and name the 2026 Longplex Regular Season Most Valuable Player.

There are plenty of terrific players to choose from so finding names wasn’t easy. Narrowing the list to five is an impossible task and we decided to do it by taking a look at the most important word in the award – valuable. We were looking for players who changed their teams fortunes this spring and thought about what it would mean to those teams if they weren’t on the roster.

The good news for us is our job is done. We’ve picked the five nominees and will now leave the impossible task of picking a winner up to our readers.

There’s only one way to vote, and that’s by reading about this week’s nominees below and then casting your vote in the ballot at the bottom of the page. We do not take email submissions – and reserve the right to make internet jokes about those who ignore this sentence – but you can vote as many times as you’d like between now and when the poll closes.

The winner will be announced in our next softball award poll.

Who was the Week 7 Player of the Week?

Some of Rhode Island’s most passionate softball communities had players nominated for last week’s award, but it wasn’t a surprise to see the softball capital of the state pull out the win.

Cranston West freshman Izzy Marcano rode the wave of support and with over 43 percent of the 39,000 votes cast for last week’s award. Johnston’s Haley Boudreau received a good chunk as well, going over 27 percent, and St. Raphael’s Izzy Sousa brought home just about 25 percent of the vote.

Congratulations to Marcano and the Cranston West faithful!

What does Longplex Regular Season MVP in Softball receive?

The prize for Longplex Regular Season MVP is simple – a big bucket of internet clout.

The award is designed to be an interactive way for the state’s most passionate softball communities to show support for their local stars. We want schools, teams and players to create social media campaigns to drive interest and show how much their community cares about the sport and its players.

When a player wins, the community does as well – and that shows us which parts of the state are truly passionate about high school softball.

How does a player get nominated?

The first step is easy – shine on the field and do everything possible to help your team win. It’s not about just one big game during the week either, it’s about consistent performances in every game you play.

The second step is having coaches report results to the Providence Journal. Reporting softball is easy, especially with the majority of the state using the GameChanger app. We need the coach of the home team to forward the GameChanger report – box score and recap – to the Journal at [email protected] by 8 p.m. on the day of games.

If a program does not have GameChanger, we will need the home team coach to email the following information – final score and score by innings; three star hitters from the winning team and one or two star players from the losing team; pitching stats, if someone throws a good game; and any pertinent information we can use to write a recap.

That information can also be sent to [email protected]

All this information will be used in our daily High School Scoreboard, where we write about all the games played that day.

So now that you have all the information on the award, check out this week’s nominees and cast your vote for the Longplex Softball Regular Season Most Valuable Player award.

Haley Boudreau, Johnston

With Boudreau in the circle, the Panthers have a chance to win every time they step on the field and her senior season might have been her best. Boudreau overcame a tough-three game stretch to finish strong and help Johnston earn the No. 2 seed for the postseason and her stats tell quite the story. She sports a 2.08 earned run average with a state-best 268 strikeouts in 117 2/3 inning of work. Boudreau’s also been terrific with the bat, hitting .462 while hitting leadoff for the Panthers.

Adriana Jeannenot, Chariho

The most important position on the field is right in the circle and there hasn’t been anyone better than Jeannenot, the two-time All-State pick. Jeannenot came into the season as RI’s top pitcher and shown why this spring with a 19-0 record and 0.60 earned run average, striking out 230 batters in 122 innings. She can do a little damage with the bat as well, batting .385 with five home runs and 29 RBI, making her the state’s best two-way player.

Lila Leys, Rogers

Leys made quite a leap in her sophomore campaign and leaves little doubt that there isn’t a more irreplaceable in Division III softball. She’s been a two-way star for the Vikings and her game in the circle has grown tremendously, as seen with her 1.50 earned run average and 160 strikeouts in 74 2/3 innings pitched. Leys has also been a monster at the plate, batting .534 with two home runs, 34 RBI and 33 runs scored.

Nikki Pallotta, La Salle

There were plenty of questions about the Rams’ ability to produce runs after a massive graduation loss from last spring, but Pallotta’s been quick to answer all of them. The junior shortstop has simply been the best hitter in the state this spring and has come up big in every huge spot. Pallotta finished the regular season with a .537 batting average, hitting 10 home runs and driving in 35 runs while scoring 28 herself. Expect more than a few big hits from Pallotta in the postseason.

Izzy Sousa, St. Raphael

Sousa’s done nothing but produce her entire high school career, which started in Division III, then went to D-II before making the jump with the Saints to D-I this spring. Sousa’s known for her talent in the circle and, despite battling an injury early, was spectacular in the regular season. She holds a 1.47 earned run average with 139 strikeouts in 86 innings of work. She’s also been one of D-I’s best hitters, with a .426 batting average, 17 runs and 14 RBI with two home runs.
