The World Baseball Classic resumes with quarterfinal action Friday, March 13, and the field has been cut in half.
That means Joey Ortiz (Mexico), Carlos Rodriguez (Nicaragua) and others will be heading back to Milwaukee Brewers camp.
Korea will face the Dominican Republic at 5:30 p.m. CT, with USA against Canada at 7 p.m. On Saturday, March 14, it's Puerto Rico vs. Italy at 2 p.m. and Venezuela vs. Japan at 8 p.m. The single-elimination portion of the tournament has begun.
These are the Brewers players still in the WBC:
USA shockingly didn't control its own destiny heading into a March 11 game between Mexico and Italy, but the Americans survived thanks to Italy's win, one night after Italy stunned USA.
Turang has been essential. He has four doubles and five hits overall, with four RBIs and two runs scored. One of those doubles came against Italy, and he scored on a Pete Crow-Armstrong home run. Turang has a .417 average and a 1.167 OPS.
Now in a head-to-head battle with USA, two Canadian Brewers will square off with Turang. Black has gone 0-for-6 in the tournament with a run scored and RBI.
He's pitched just once in the WBC, allowing two hits but no runs in one inning.
Uribe had an adventurous night against Venezuela on March 11, walking all three men he faced and putting the DR in grave danger of blowing a four-run lead. Uribe was pulled from the game, and the Dominican Republic survived. In his previous inning of work, he struck out two and showcased an elaborate celebration.
The Brewers' first-round pick in 2025 didn't play in the win over USA but smoked a double in the rout of Mexico. He's 3-for-8 with a home run and three RBIs and two runs scored.
After missing two games with a sore hand, he's 1-for-6 with an RBI and walk.
He's struggled, going 1-for-11 with a walk and run scored.
He's made three appearances, going three innings and allowing two hits and no runs, with three strikeouts.
