As many people here no I am not a huge basketball fan. I stopped watching the regular season about 2-3 years ago. But when I did Marion was a budding superstar?

In fact I remember one year I was preparing my fantasy basketball roster and Marion was the preselective number 1 player in the league.

Now since then i watch zero games. But tuned in this playoff season and am shocked that not only is Marion maybe the 5th player on the court...Its hard to believe the Suns dont have anyone on the bench better!

Was he bad all season or just having an awful playoffs.

I'll answer your post nicely before you get hammered by some others. Shawn Marion has never been "a budding superstar". He is one of the best and most unique players in the NBA. he doesn't create his own offense like a superstar though. That's why Bruce Bowen is able to shut him down so well. That's what he has done in this series so far.

Marion has had a terrific playoffs and even better season. 3rd team all NBA in fact. He has struggled offensively the last two games, but he does other things such as rebound and generally guard the opposition's best player weither it be a 2, 3 or 4. So it's not like he just disappears. He still managed a double double last night even though it was considered a sub par performance. Problem is the Suns need him to score closer to his 20ppg average to be able to win this series.

Shawn had a decent offensive game last night, but his 4th quarter defense has been lacking.

I'm going to watch yesterday's game more thoroughly in a few minutes. I watched last night, but I was turning back and forth between my TV and a much smaller video on my computer. I thought it was a mistake to put Shawn Marion on Ginobilli instead of leaving Q. The key to guarding Ginobilli is staying in front of him. Marion is much better at playing his man to the basket and using his long arms and athleticism to bother him. Surprisingly Q did a very good job of stepping in front and cutting off Ginobilli... at least in the first game.

:biglaugh:

5th player? You honestly should watch more games before coming in here saying this stuff...not trying to be mean, but I mean, you say you watched the playoffs...did you not see Game 6 vs Dallas?

You should have watched all year...he is the #3 guy on the team, hands down.

he's had a rough series vs the Spurs...that is true...but the guy is guarding DUNCAN out there at times...

Do not slight Marion, or diminish his value...the guy is a stud and any coach out there would take him in a heartbeat...

11 points? With 4 missed layups? Scoring 10 point sbelow you're average is a "decent" offensive game - decent means average - Shawn was AWOL again last night - on O and D. He's dissapointed me greatly in this series after really nutting up in the last one.

His D was just fine until the 4th quarter.

Marion has definitely missed some shots he would normally make. I would guess it is fatigue from guarding Duncan in the post and having to wear a Bowen sized jacket on offense.

I have no problem Marion not being involved in the offense because quite frankly, he has Bowen on him and we can score just AS WELL without going through him. I hope Marion understands that instead of bitching about it over and over again.

And if he really wants to contribute, maybe he can stop Manu in the final 3mins?

I thought Marion was decent but we need more from him. He didn't have a bad game.

I think our biggest "conflict" right now is ball movement. While Nash can create for others and shoot at an amazing %, his dominance on the ball really only benefits Amare. Looks like Marion feels left out but I was really hoping him say something like "I don't really care if I can score or not, as long as our team wins the game. And if I can't score, I can defend and do other little things to help this team." Instead, he keeps on complaining he is not getting enough touches.

Right now, this team relies on Nash way too much. Almost to a scary level. Either Barbosa sucks really that bad or the team is too used to Nash handling out candies.

In the long run, I really hope D'Antoni can solve this problem because the truth is, what if Nash gets injured now?? I mean Nash can still create for Marion and other players without Amare but when Nash is out, great opponents like Spurs will take every advantage of it.

We need to have better ball movement. Pass it around to scramble Spurs' defense. Right now, Nash can still penetrate their defense but it's too "predicatble" for Spurs' defense. And Nash ran out of gas in the 4th again.

All I can say is... get a clue before posting such comments...

He is the best rebounder, best defender on the team, he steals, he blocks, he defends opponents big men quite successfully, and gives you consistently double doubles... 'nuff said!

I don't buy the fatigue argument. That might fly if Stephen Hunter wasn't getting 30 minutes in these last two games but we haven't seen a whole lot of Shawn on Duncan in the post.

:stupid:

Even Coach DA was saying it last night! "We're stagnant" I guess a good defense will do that to you.

It's partly true but I also think getting Maron involved is a GOOD thing but NOT NECESSARY in this series.

Spurs seems to be determined to let Nash/Amare have their games while all other guys stay cold. They've succeeded it.

Nash/Amare's offense efficiency is TOO GOOD that almost any coach would exploit that combo. Nash was shooting 59% as a PG while Amare may have something over 55%. How can you NOT want to go through them? And we did manage to score 108pt.

But this huge dependency on Nash/Amare may be a bad thing in the long run especially when Nash gets old and injuries happen.

I give credits when the team earns it and Spurs' bench is by far the best of all. The bench KNEW exactly what they are going to do with or without Duncan. They don't take bad shots and they are just simply better.

It will be great if Marion is more involved because hot shootings will choke soon. I hope it's not Game 3. So far, Nash has been shooting like crazy. Nash wasn't open at all. Parker was on him all the time and he could still hit those shots. While we enjoy this high % shots, it's not good in the series if Nash gone cold. So we "should" get Marion involved, not that we "have to".

Get my point? lol

wow I make an observation from my perspective (which I gave you admittedly) and basically get a response that makes an ass of the people posting it. Nice. No wonder most people stay off this board.

From what I have saw...and I told you what that consists of he is not as good as when I last saw him. Plain and simple.

BTW not all posters. But to call someone a troll because he makes an observation? cmon. I admitted I didnt know how he did in the season. Showed what I based my opinion on (past and preset)

Name this board the worshippers of the suns if you cant have even the slightest opinion against one of its players. So other normal people know to stay out. :notworthy :notworthy

1) Gimme a break with the "no wonder people stay off this board" crap. We have a huge community here.

2) I never called you a troll, in fact, I tried to make it sound all in fun, I guess you didn't take it that way. For that, I apologize.
