The Mt. Vernon Marauders are headed to the IHSAA Class 4A championship game after knocking off New Albany 76-69 at New Castle Fieldhouse last Saturday.
Led by a future Purdue Boilermaker, the Marauders have had a postseason run for the ages, leading up to the season finale at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Here's what to know about the program.
The school is located in Fortville, Indiana, about 25 miles from downtown Indianapolis and Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the Indiana Pacers.
Entering the Class 4A championship game the Marauders are 27-3. Their only losses have come to Fishers, Pike and Crown Point.
Mt. Vernon is currently ranked just outside of the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 on the watchlist.
The Marauders are led by four-star Purdue signee Luke Ertel. A point guard, he averages 24.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, 6.7 assists per game and 1.8 steals per game. Junior Max Vise is the team's second-leading scorer at 14.2 points.
Joe Bradburn is in his third year as Mt. Vernon's head coach. The Marauders are 63-18 during Bradburd's tenure winning 20 or more games the last two years.
This is Mt. Vernon's first time making it to the on the boys side. Their girls team won a state championship in 2013.
The Marauders are set to play against Crown Point in a rematch of a game that Bulldogs won 60-56 on December 23. Crown Point is also making its first state championship appearance.
