Braylon Mullins is now forever a UConn legend. The guard hit a near half-court shot in the Elite Eight to complete an insane 19-point comeback against No. 1 Duke to stay alive in the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

To add to the lore, Mullins is a true freshman. He played in 31 of UConn's games this season, starting 27 of them. The guard averaged 11.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists this season. No shot was bigger than the one he hit in the Elite Eight to save UConn's season.

Mullins was a highly ranked recruit in the class of 2025 and ended up with the Huskies despite offers from other high-profile bluebloods, including the University of Indiana. Despite that, he ended up with the Huskies, and his shot helped UConn clinch a spot in the 2026 Final Four.

Where is Braylon Mullins from?​

Mullins grew up in Greenfield, Indiana. It's an Eastern suburb of Indianapolis, only 25 miles from the capital city. If he had wanted to stay in state for his collegiate basketball career, his closest options would have been Purdue (1.5 hours), the University of Indiana (1.5 hours) or Indiana State (1 hour, 42 minutes). Instead, Mullins opted for a complete change of scenery and committed to UConn despite offers from Indiana and North Carolina.

Braylon Mullins high school​

Mullins graduated from Greenfield-Central High School in Greenfield, Indiana. As a sophomore, he averaged 16.9 points and 5.2 rebounds. Mullins improved as a junior, averaging 25 points, 6.2 boards and 3.2 steals per game. In his final high school season, he averaged 32.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.7 steals per game on his way to being a five-star recruit in the 2025 recruiting class.

Mullins was a 2025 McDonald's All-American and earned the distinction of Indiana's Mr. Basketball.

Braylon Mullins parents​

The UConn guard is the son of Katie and Josh Mullins. His father played college basketball first at Lincoln Trail College and then at IUPUI, also known as Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Mullins has two younger brothers, Cole and Clay. They are twins, and both play at Greenfield-Central and are in the 2026 recruiting class.

Braylon Mullins recruiting​

Mullins had plenty of offers to consider when coming out of high school. According to his 247 recruiting profile, he had offers from Purdue, Kansas, Stanford, Creighton, Michigan State, UConn, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Michigan and Indiana. 247 Sports had him ranked as the top player in Indiana, the second-best shooting guard and the 12th-best player in the nation in the 2025 recruiting class.
