Alysa Liu returned to figure skating, and it paid off, as she won the Olympic gold medal in the women's singles event.
Liu is only 20 years old and has been skating since she was five. She got started in Oakland, California, and ended up crafting her education around her figure skating training and schedule after she started competing and consistently placed well.
The American figure skater has lived in California for most of her life. While she will now be known internationally for her figure skating win, she will be returning to her collegiate studies. Liu is currently a student at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA).

Where is Alysa Liu from?
Liu was born in Clovis, California, a suburb northeast of Fresno. She moved to Oakland when she was young and stayed in the area until college. She is apparently a frequent rider of mass transit in the Bay Area, where she currently resides.

Where did Alysa Liu go to college?
Liu had a unique upbringing with schooling. She went to a Chinese school for three years and then transferred to the Oakland School of the Arts for their figure skating program. Liu missed too many classes due to her travel for competitions, and then enrolled at California Connections Academy and was homeschooled. She graduated from high school in June 2021, when she was just 15 years old.
In the fall of 2023, Liu enrolled at UCLA, where she studies psychology.

When did Alysa Liu start skating?
Liu's father was a big fan of Michelle Kwan's and decided to see if his daughter liked figure skating. She began skating at the Oakland Ice Center in Oakland, California, when she was five years old.
Six months later, Liu was getting individualized lessons in both figure skating and choreography. The earliest records of her big competitions, starting with the Central Pacific Regionals, began when she was 10 years old.

Where does Alysa Liu train?
Liu first trained at the Oakland Ice Center in Oakland, CA. She then moved to the Yerba Buena Ice Rink. Currently, though, Liu trains at Lakewood Ice in Lakewood, California. Lakewood is a southeastern suburb of Los Angeles. It is easier for her to get to Lakewood to train regularly than it would be to get to Oakland.
