The New England Patriots did a masterful job upgrading their roster this offseason, but how they rank among the other elite teams in the league is up for debate at this juncture of the offseason.
According to Bleacher Report NFL writers, consisting of Gary Davenport, Kris Knox, Maurice Moton and Brent Sobleski, the Patriots rank No. 6 out of all 32 teams in the league as training camp approaches.
“Logically, the New England Patriots should be considered one of the top contenders in the AFC,” Knox said. “They represented the conference in Super Bowl LX, they have a legitimate MVP candidate in quarterback Drake Maye, and they added some intriguing pieces during the offseason.”
The Patriots’ offense is considerably better with superstar wide receiver A.J. Brown and star wideout Romeo Doubs in town, along with a more experienced TreVeyon Henderson in the offensive backfield, star guard Alijah Vera-Tucker at left guard and rookie Caleb Lomu ready to play either tackle position.
The strength of New England’s defense is nearly identical to that of last season, save the presence of rookie Gabe Jacas, who has the potential to give the Patriots a third high-end edge rusher that they didn’t have in 2025.
Other teams, such as the Los Angeles Rams and Denver Broncos, upgraded their rosters with marquee players as well, but New England has the momentum from last season’s run to the Super Bowl, coupled with their collection of talent, to get the better of the other Super Bowl contenders en route to a Vince Lombardi Trophy at the end of next season.
