Erling Haaland catapulted himself onto the world stage when he shone for Norway at the 2026 World Cup in North America.

The Manchester City forward became popular in America thanks to his impressive form on the pitch, and the memes that were made about him off it.

In the end, Norway reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup for the first time in their history before losing to England.

Haaland, meanwhile, netted seven goals in five matches and had the best goals-per-90 ratio of any player to net four or more at the tournament.

In the weeks since the World Cup ended, the Norway ace has been away on holiday, but he is due to return to Man City soon.

Erling Haaland expected to return to Manchester City next week

The 2026/27 Premier League season kicks off later this month, with the Manchester outfit looking to beat the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea to the title.

City’s pre-season is already well underway, but due to his involvement at the World Cup, Haaland has not yet rejoined his club teammates.

However, The Athletic have now reported that ‘The players who took part in the latter stages of the World Cup are expected to report for their first training session under Enzo Maresca on Wednesday while the club will host an open training session on Thursday.’

That will include Haaland, who reached the last eight of the competition with his country.

He finished the previous season with 27 Premier League goals to his name and should be aiming to better that total and add another league title to his collection in the coming months.

Man City are due to play Arsenal in the Community Shield on August 16 before their league season kicks off against Bournemouth on August 23.
