It happens every single year. The infamous "What the f*@k?" pick. Last year, it was arguably Levi Jones to the Bengals so early. Another surprise was Dwight Freeney to the Colts when he was scheduled to go somewhere in the 20's.

I think the biggest surprise will be Leftwich falling out of the top ten. I think that given the fact that he has broken the same leg twice and still has a metal rod in that leg makes it a risky pick at that high of a position. I know that he had a successful workout and he is a born leader, but to pay a dude with an injury history a HUGE bonus is an enormous risk.

You know that there will be surprises, but we will have to wait and see where they will occur.

Thoughts?

Cards pull their yearly WTF pick in Round 2 or 3.Draft Suggs in Rd 1.then draft a Troy Polamalu S or Brett Williams OT in RD 2. Or Draft a Dan Stricker WR in RD 3.

I can't say exactly who the player is, but I sincerely believe that Oakland is going to do something wacky........they have two low first rounders and no glaring needs. I fully expect them to use one of those two picks on an unexpected player.

Mcgahee is so widely being reported to go to Tennessee or New England in round 1 that I don't even think it will be a surprise at this point.

Another mild surprise could be William Joseph falling way, way down in the draft, possibly deep into round 2.

I'm getting the feeling Terrance Newman is going to drop out of the top 6. He's 25 yrs old and shoulder concerns.

I think that he will draft Leftwich, and everyone will be totally surprised....and I will be sad because I will have to dislike him since he will have that stupid star on his helmet.

Every team passes on their first rounder in a failed attempt to save money. Sorry Carson but you were the first pick of the SECOND round you don't get David Carr money!

I don't see a stunner in the top 5-10. I think Ed's right about Joseph, gaining all that weight was a huge mistake and he probably is out of the first round right now.

I think Calico won't go as high as people expect, he sort of became everyone's favorite "sleeper" after the combine numbers came out but I don't think too many people have actually seen him play and reports are he's much more raw than your typical 2nd rounder.

Leftwich will fall big time, unless Jacksonville or Baltimore take him.
The word out of Baltimore is Boller is actually preferred. And although the Jags might pick him, I think they will go with Trufant instead.

No one else really needs a QB that bad until the Steelers at #27.
If they don't take him, he would probably even drop to round 2.

With the #2 pick in the first round, the Detroit Lions select

Tyrone Calico, WR, Middle Tennessee State.

(Sound of retching, low moans, toilets flushing...)

You people are insane. Byron Leftwich is not going to go in the second round.

Ed, just hold on to your ********, and don't get so exited.

I simply said that if neither Baltimore, Jacksonville, or Pittsburgh, take him, he could fall there.

In looking at the draft order again, The Raiders would probably take him too.

So yes, its remote, but possible.

I can't see the Titans picking Mcgahee. They will need a RB to replace George eventually, but they are so close to the SB, and so strapped for cap space, I can't see them wasting a first-rounder on someone who more than likely can not contribute this year.

BTW, Ed - love your signature quote!!

Leftwich might not make it past #4 or #5.

I think the comments the Ravens made about liking Boller are under the premise that Leftwich will already be gone by then.

And no chance in hell that the Packers would pass on either Lefty or Boller.

You may think that, that's certainly your perogative. Billick has said he would like either one. And I simply disagree with your statement there. They have made no bones about the fact that they like Boller.

And no chance in hell that the Packers would pass on either Lefty or Boller. No chance in Hell? LOL. OK Ed. It's your story. They like Grossman. I think the only safe thing you can say here is that certainly both Boller AND Leftwich will not still be on the board. And to say "No way in hell" , to me, is very much an exaggeration.

They "like" Grossman based on the assumption that boller and leftwich are gone, duh!

You seriously think that they will take Rex Grossman if Byron Leftwich is on the board? And how do you know they "like" grossman other than that you clicked on a few mock drafts and saw Grossman to Green Bay?

You're taking poor logic to whole new levels.

The biggest surprise will be only one QB taken in the top 10 and that being Palmer

The biggest surprise will not be Bengals taking Palmer but the fact he can actually becomes a good quarterback for them. Also,Chicago takes Leftwich.

EdB and ChiCard will be shown on TV screaming mad when the Cards accidentally select Brooks Barnard (Maryland) in round 1. Minutes later, the two of them will be shown buying Dallas Cowboys jerseys as they swear off the Cards. :D

Biggest surprise in round 1 will be the number of trades executed.

The biggest surprise would be Carson Palmer back-tracking after he is drafted, ala John Elway many moons ago, and demanding that his rights be traded to a contender.
