Just prior to departing for the West Coast, the Tennessee Titans released their first depth chart of the season, and there were a few surprises.

Whether it was linebacker James Williams behind Mohamoud Diabate at linebacker or running back Nick Singleton buried, there was a lot to take in. One thing that wasn’t a surprise for Titans’ fans was at tight end, where Gunnar Helm is listed on top of the depth chart, but to Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports, it was his biggest takeaway.

The Titans signed tight end Daniel Bellinger to a three-year, $24 million contract this offseason, reuniting him with Brian Daboll. However, the Titans listed second-year tight end Gunnar Helm as the starting tight end on their first depth chart.

The Texas product caught 44 passes for 357 yards and two touchdowns in his first NFL season, but has been viewed as a potential breakout candidate in this new offense.

For many, Helm had been penciled in to be the starter for the majority of the offseason, but that doesn’t mean that Bellinger won’t have a significant role in Brian Daboll’s offense. Tennessee will likely use both tight ends quite a bit throughout the season. The bigger question at the position heading into the next portion of training camp is who will be manning the spot behind Helm and Bellinger, and how many tight ends will they keep.
