OKLAHOMA CITY — In a battle between elite pitching and an historic offense, Alabama softball ace Jocelyn Briski came out on top.

It wasn't a perfect game. After a strong start on Thursday, May 28, at the Women's College World Series, Briski allowed back-to-back homers for the first time in her college career. The three-run third inning gave UCLA the lead until a Crimson Tide rally of two- and three-run homers gave Alabama the final 6-3 edge.

Briski ended the day allowing three runs off six hits, striking out nine.

"We all knew coming in she was a competitor," said UCLA star Megan Grant, who leads the country in home runs with 41. "Just the scouting plan, she throws everything, she's very versatile. She just had really good stuff today. We tried to compete as much as we could against her."

Alabama softball coach Patrick Murphy said he's preached the power of short-term memory to Briski, and it paid off when it mattered most.

"I thought Briski did an incredible job of pitching through a little adversity, then stopping it," Murphy said.
