Vermont Green are back for 2026 providing plenty of excitement in the Green Mountain State with the men's team the defending USL League Two champions and a newly created women's team allowing for more home games.
Both clubs are set to make their home debuts during Memorial Day weekend. The men's team kicks off the weekend hosting Albany Rush on Friday, May 22 at 7 p.m. while the women play the Hudson Valley Crusaders on Saturday, May 23 at 7 p.m.
The defending USL League Two champions are off to a 2-0 start after defeating Seacoast United and Boston Bolts by a combined score of 6-1.
The Vermont Green women's squad is still looking for its first goal as a member of USL W after earning a 0-0 draw against Hartford Athletic on Tuesday, May 19.
Here's what to know about both teams ahead of Vermont Green's 2026 home debut, including key returners and home schedule.
Vermont Green look to be the first time in over 20 years since the Cape Cod Crusaders repeated as USL League Two champions in 2002 and 2003.
Chris Taylor returns to the sidelines as the head coach of Vermont Green, bringing back several familiar faces including Brandon Marshall (who takes over as captain), David Ajagbe, Alex Hall, Gabriel Fernandez and 2024 National Champions with the University of Vermont (UVM) Ryan Zellefrow and Niklas Herceg.
There are plenty of Vermont Catamounts on the roster including Herceg, Burlington natives Karl Daly and Nash Barlow and incoming Catamount Halim Bangura, a midfielder from London. There are also former Catamounts on the roster such as Zellefrow, Andrew Millar, and Nicolas Leobus, who transferred following the 2025 collegiate season.
The other player with ties to Vermont is former Montpelier goalie Brio Levitt who attends Lindenwood University. Levitt earned Burlington Free Press all-state honors as first team goalie in 2023 after leading the Solons to the top-seed in Division II.
Abby Carchio takes the helm as Vermont Green's head coach from former USWNT star Sam Mewis. Carchio played college soccer at Brown University and is an assistant coach at Northeastern University.
The women's team also draws some of the top college players from around the country, with players representing numerous schools such as Boston College, UCLA, Penn State and UVM.
The UVM contingent features recent graduates Sydney Remington and Lauren DeGroot, who led the Catamounts to the America East championship game. The current Vermont student athletes include Colchester native Ava Moore, back-up goalie Sydney Slusser and Farrah Yaacoub.
The other Vermonter playing for the Green is former Harwood star Louisa Thomsen, who led the Highlanders to the 2019 Division II championship game. Thomsen was named to the Burlington Free Press' all-state first team in 2021 and is entering her junior year at Bucknell.
Vermont Green will play all their games at Virtue Field on the University of Vermont's campus.
The team is bringing back its on-field seating it introduced during the 2025 playoffs. Those tickets are available at the door for an additional $10 and are at a first-come, first-serve basis.
Tickets are still available for some women's games and can be purchased here.
Fans who don't have tickets are welcome to watch the games behind the north goal from the fence.
