England and France both fell short of the World Cup glory they were hoping for.
But there is one more chance for pride points when they face off in the World Cup third-place match on Saturday, July 18 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
The Three Lions beat tournament darling Norway 2-1 in the quarterfinals in the same Miami humidity that they will play their last match in. Harry Kane and company find themselves here after losing to Lionel Messi and defending champion Argentina 2-1 in the semifinals. Prior to that, they won Group L, beat the DR Congo thanks to the captain's late brace, then defeated Mexico at Estadio Azteca in the round of 16.
France was denied a third straight World Cup finals appearance, losing 2-0 to Spain in their semifinal match under the dome of Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. It was their first time not scoring in more than a year. Les Bleus previously won Group I and then beat Sweden, Paraguay and Morocco without conceding a goal in the knockout rounds.
Kane has scored six goals for England and Jude Bellingham stormed onto the scene to score an equal amount. Kylian Mbappé leads France with eight goals and is tied with Messi in the Golden Boot race. Ousmane Dembélé has added five for Les Bleus, including a hat trick in the group finale against Norway.
England and France have a storied history. They have faced off more than 30 times and this will be their fourth World Cup matchup.
