Former New Mexico State men's basketball player and current Indiana Pacers power forward Pascal Siakam has reached the NBA playoffs for the seventh time in his career, his second time with Indiana.
The Pacers, a No. 4 seed in the NBA's Eastern Conference, will face the No. 5-seed Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs starting on Saturday.
Siakam signed a four-year, $189.5 million contract extension with Indiana in July 2024 and was named an All-Star for the third time in his NBA career this season. He finished the regular season with 20.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, a 51.9 shooting percentage and a career-high 38.9% mark from 3-point range.
A notable highlight for Siakam this season came when he drained a game-winning 3-pointer in a 135–132 overtime victory against the Celtics, finishing with 29 points.
Siakam played at NM State from 2013-16. He earned Western Conference Athletic Freshman of the Year honors in 2014-15 after averaging 12.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game and started all 34 games for the Aggies in 2015-16, averaging 20.2 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game to win WAC Player of the Year and earn an All-American honorable mention from the Associated Press.
He was selected in the first round, 27th overall in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors. In between playing for Toronto in the 2016-17 season, he helped lead its NBA D-League (now the G-League) affiliate, Raptors 905, to a D-League championship and won the 2017 NBA D-League Finals MVP.
Siakam started 79 games for the Raptors in its NBA championship-winning 2018-19 season, winning the NBA's Most Improved Player award after averaging 16.9 points per game, and later became a two-time All-NBA selection and two-time All-Star with Toronto before being traded to Indiana midway through the 2023-24 season.
