Shortly after the draft concluded, the updated power rankings began. One in particular had the Raiders rising to 18th in the league's power rankings thanks, in large part, to their strong draft. But also due to getting a new head coach and actual starting quarterback.
Power rankings change all the time, which in a way means they should be treated with a grain of salt. But they do offer an overall feeling as to the talent on a team. And since everything at this point is speculative, that's as good a litmus test as we have before actual games are played.
With that as our measuring stick, we used the power rankings, having the Raiders beat all the teams who were lower than them and lose to all the teams ahead of them to come up with a record for the 2025 season.
Opponents:
Home (9): Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Jaguars, Titans, Cowboys, Giants, Bears, Browns
Away (8): Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Colts, Texans, Commanders, Eagles, Patriots
Home: 5-4
Away: 2-6
Wins: Jaguars, Titans, Cowboys, Giants, Bears, Browns, Patriots
Losses: Chiefs (x2), Chargers (x2), Broncos (x2), Texans, Commanders, Eagles, Cowboys
Analysis: Yes, the power rankings would have the Raiders getting swept in the division. However unlikely that seems, that's what happened last season. Some of these teams' places on the power rankings vary, but tend to cancel each other out. For instance, in The Athletic power rankings (which i used for this) the Cowboys are at 16, two spots above the Raiders. While in the USA Today power rankings, they are below the Raiders. But the Bears and Patriots are above them. So, going with The Athletic power rankings offers a better outcome.
