The Chicago Bears made a splash with the expected signing of safety Coby Bryant, who's fresh off a Super Bowl win with the Seattle Seahawks. The move shores up one of Chicago's biggest needs at the safety position with starters Kevin Byard and Jaquan Brisker hitting free agency.

Bryant, a former fourth-round pick in 2022, played a big part of Seattle's Super Bowl run, totaling 66 tackles, four interceptions, seven pass breakups and one forced fumble in 2025. In four years with the Seahawks, Bryant totaled 227 tackles, nine tackles for loss, seven interceptions, 17 pass breakups, seven forced fumbles, two sacks and seven QB hits in 58 games with 34 starts. He's a ballhawk who will slide into the role vacated by Byard.

We spoke to Kole Musgrove of Seahawks Wire, who gave us the rundown on what we can expect from the Bears' new safety and why he could be a good fit for Chicago.

1. What kind of player are the Bears getting in Coby Bryant?

Kole Musgrove: Da Bears are getting a solid, ball hawking, intelligent safety who always seems to have a perfect sense for where the play is. The Seahawks wanted to bring him back, but with the emergence of backup Ty Okada as a viable starter, it allowed a situation to where Chicago could outbid them.

2. What is Bryant's biggest strength?

KM: I mentioned it in the first question, but Bryant’s ability to generate turnovers is incredible. He also seems to create them in the biggest moments (such as a game-changing pick-six against Kyler Murray a few years ago). With seven interceptions in the last two years, including four in 2025, Bryant knows how to steal momentum for a defense.

3. What is Bryant's biggest weakness?

KM: As much as I appreciate him as a player, and do think he's going to provide an incredible boost to Chicago’s secondary, I do think consistency can be an issue at times. When he's on, he’s incredible. But don't be too surprised if he's burnt on a few routes from time to time.

4. What impact did Bryant have during his time with the Seahawks?

KM: Bryant was a key cog in Mike Macdonald’s system, and provided solid starts each week. With Seattle, he executed Macdonald’s system to a T and helped make the Seahawks secondary as feared as the Legion of Boom days.

5. Why do you think Bryant could be a good fit for the Bears?

KM: Chicago led the NFL with 23 interceptions and they just added another ballhawk. Bryant is going to help ensure that number stays the same in 2026, if not slightly increased.
