Left tackle Jordan Seaton was a centerpiece of LSU football's star-studded transfer portal class. When head coach Lane Kiffin took over the program, the offensive line was a major need. LSU responded by landing Seaton, the top-ranked lineman on the market.

Seaton comes to LSU after spending the first two years of his career in Deion Sanders' program at Colorado. Originally from Maryland, Seaton was a five-star recruit out of high school and earned a starting job as a true freshman in 2024.

LSU fought hard to land Seaton, battling Oregon in the final hours of the transfer portal. There will be position battles across LSU's offensive line, but Seaton is expected to claim the left tackle job with ease on his way to being a first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

What should LSU expect from Seaton in 2026?

LSU needs Seaton to be a rock at left tackle

Given the questions elsewhere on LSU's offensive line, and the fact that QB Sam Leavitt will be coming off an injury, LSU needs Seaton to deliver consistency at left tackle. The Tigers' offense will sleep well at night if Leavitt's blindside isn't a concern.

A trusted stalwart at one of the tackle spots can take pressure off the rest of LSU's offensive line. The offensive coaches can simplify for the other four, because they know Seaton can handle his duties on an island. That means Seaton will be tasked with man-blocking some of the best defensive ends in the country.

Trust is the key element. If Seaton is elite one game, but average the next, that's not good enough. LSU needs Seaton to deliver week in and week out.

Seaton's talent is off the charts

Given Seaton's raw talent, there's no reason to think he won't deliver the needed consistency. Seaton was one of the top high-school recruits in his class and he produced as a true freshman on the offensive line. It's not easy to be a freshman starting at tackle, so when you see a guy excelling in his first year, it's a strong sign. LSU fans saw that with Will Campbell in 2022.

There were questions about Colorado's coaching acumen on the offensive side of the ball. Now, Seaton is at LSU, playing for one of the best staffs in the country. LSU's offensive line coach tandem of Eric Wolford and James Cregg is well respected. We've already seen Seaton transform his body and make strides in the weight room. There's no reason to think that development won't happen on the field either.

Seaton brings experience to LSU

Seaton brings 1,421 snaps of experience to LSU's offensive line. The Tigers needed it after the unit's poor performance in 2025. Most of LSU's 2025 line found the exit door in the portal, and LSU was left needing to reconstruct the entire room.

It's hard to find talented and experienced offensive linemen in the portal, but Kiffin and Co. found one in Seaton.

Jordan Seaton -- Scouting report

  • Seaton is a tough man to beat. His long arms and quick feet give him the tools to beat pass rushers in multiple ways.
  • Seaton is inconsistent in the run game, but he's better than what people have given him credit for. Seaton has the raw power to drive defenders off the ball, he knows how to time up his steps, and he has strong hands. I don't have many concerns about LSU running off tackle to Seaton's side.
  • Seaton's athleticism allows him to get in space and block linebackers and defensive backs.
  • When Seaton is beaten in pass protection, it's usually on the inside. There were a couple of occasions where he would take an aggressive pass set, and a pass rusher would make him pay with a quick step inside. It's nearly impossible to beat Seaton coming around the edge.

What are fair expectations for Jordan Seaton at LSU in 2026?

Given Seaton's transfer rating and the price LSU likely paid to get him, expectations are high. LSU wants Seaton to be an All-American left tackle in 2026.

Is that unfair? Probably not. He was a five-star recruit for a reason, and he's projected as a first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. I don't think he'll be the best left tackle in the country, and if I were asked to bet, he's not a slam-dunk first-team All-American, but he'll be in the discussion.

At least, Seaton should be an All-SEC player this fall.
