ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs are restructuring Patrick Mahomes' contract.

“The Kansas City Chiefs restructured Patrick Mahomes’ contract this week, lowering his salary cap number from $78.2 to $34.65 million for the upcoming season and creating $43.56 million in salary cap space.”

So what does all of this mean? It allows the Chiefs to go after several players in the free-agent market; one in particular comes to mind: former Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Earlier this week, the Miami Dolphins cut the NFL Pro Bowler, and many are speculating now that he may return to Kansas City to finish his career.

The Chiefs could definitely use the help at the wide receiver position, which struggled often this past season, but are they willing to spend some of that cap money on an often-injured, fading wide receiver?

That’s just one of the holes the Chiefs need to fill. Toward the end of the season, the team looked old and worn out, and the cap money may be better spent on more pressing needs.

They can always draft a wide receiver in this year’s draft since they pick high in the first round this year.
