The San Francisco 49ers haven't done any wheeling and dealing through the first two days of the NFL draft.
They had four picks scheduled in the top 100 and made all of them without a trade. That leaves them with seven choices across the final four rounds on Day 3. Perhaps the 49ers get active in the trade market on Day 3 to either pinpoint a couple of late-round gems. They could also try to trade back for more late Day 3 dart throws to try and bolster their roster.
Here are the 49ers picks in each round of the final day of the three-day selection process:
Round 4, Pick 11: 113 overallRound 4, Pick 36: 138 overall
Last season the 49ers found a couple of immediate contributors in the fourth round when they added safety Malik Mustapha and running back Isaac Guerendo. The latter was a player they traded up for. This year they're slated for two picks in this round.
Round 5, Pick 9: 147 overallRound 5, Pick 24: 160 overall
The 49ers weren't going to have any fifth-round picks until they made a couple of trades. They snagged the No. 147 pick from Washington in the Deebo Samuel trade. Then they dealt Jordan Mason to the Vikings and picked up the No. 160 pick. Their own selection was taken away by the NFL because of an accounting error by the 49ers.
The 49ers aren't scheduled to pick in Round 6.
This is where the 49ers can start aiming for players they just want to get in the building. Positional need matters less here. Any contributions a team can get from a seventh-round choice are a big deal.
