Almost every conversation about the Atlanta Falcons is centered around their quarterback competition heading into mandatory minicamp, which begins on Tuesday.
It's understandable, because whoever winds up starting for Atlanta under center will have a huge impact on how far they go this season - and possibly into the future.
Over at NFL.com, Matt Okada picked 9 and 1 as the numbers that will define the Falcons' season.
The quarterback is king in the modern NFL, but in this case there are other numbers that might be more important for Atlanta this year. If we keep it strictly to players, the No. 7 might be the best - because there's a decent chance that Bijan Robinson will account for more yards than either Michael Penix Jr. or Tua Tagovailoa.
However, if it were our choice to make it wouldn't be a number at all - but a presence - that of new head coach Kevin Stefanski. It's difficult to quantify just how much of a difference a good coach makes at this level - but you know it when you see it.
The best coaching hire of the last five years came when the Seattle Seahawks dismissed their long-time successful coach Pete Carroll and replaced him with Mike Macdonald, considered the NFL's brightest young defensive mind.
It only took a year and a half for Macdonald to turn a good team into a great one, turning a fringe-playoff contender into one of the most-dominant Super Bowl winners of the last 25 years.
Expecting the same of Stefanski is a bit much, considering the difference in the talent level between the two teams. However, we can expect Stefanski to elevate Atlanta's game to the next level - no matter who wins up winning their quarterback competition.

"Yep, here we are again. A quarterback competition between jersey Nos. 1 and 9 -- this time on the backs of Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. Will it be Tagovailoa’s experience or Penix’s promise? Whoever it is, they’ll be fighting to secure Atlanta’s first winning season and playoff berth since 2017 -- nine years ago."
