LAWRENCE — The 2026 NBA Draft is going to unfold in the very near future, with the first round set for Tuesday and the second round set for Wednesday.
Darryn Peterson, who was a freshman with Kansas basketball this past season, has a chance at going No. 1 overall in the first round. That would mean he’d go to Washington. Or he could drop to No. 2 overall and Utah, or even No. 3 overall and Memphis, but it’s tough to think he’d fall out of the top three based on how he’s perceived as one of the top talents in this draft.
Here’s a look at a few NBA mock draft projections, as of June 21:
In this projection, Peterson would go No. 1 overall in the first round to Washington. Although his various health issues during his lone season in college helped further a debate that BYU freshman AJ Dybantsa would be picked first, Dybantsa would instead go No. 2 overall to Utah. This mock draft does make a point to lean in to how chaotic the draft night could be, including bold predictions, such as Giannis Antetokounmpo being traded from Milwaukee to Miami.
In this projection, Peterson would go No. 3 overall in the first round to Memphis. Dybantsa would lead the way at No. 1 overall to Washington, while Duke freshman Cameron Boozer would go No. 2 overall to Utah. Peterson earned All-Big 12 Conference second team and all-freshman team honors with KU.
In this projection, Peterson would go No. 2 overall in the first round to Utah. Dybantsa, again, would be at No. 1 overall to Washington — while Boozer goes No. 3 overall to Memphis. Peterson averaged 20.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game for KU this past season.
