General manager Adam Peters made few changes to the Washington Commanders' offense during the offseason. There were a few additions, but Peters spent much of the offseason rebuilding Washington's defense, which was one of the NFL's worst last season.

To that end, Peters seems to have done well. On paper, the additions to the roster and the hiring of Daronte Jones as defensive coordinator look like all the right moves. But the lack of change on offense is a concern. Specifically, ESPN's John Keim says the biggest concern is around having new systems and first-time coordinators on both sides of the ball.

Washington could use more help at receiver opposite Terry McLaurin -- and that might be in the form of the 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk. Even if he is added, there will be questions about him. However, the offensive system -- with a wider variety of routes and using more two tight end sets -- will help regardless. And there will be questions about the secondary. But perhaps the biggest concern is that with a new system on both sides of the ball -- and first-time coordinators -- how quickly can they play at a level needed coming off a 5-12 season? Both sides could end up much improved, but when does that happen? And what does it look like before they do?

Those are legitimate concerns, and Keim is right to note that the number of changes this team has made could slow down its progress.

However, most of these players have played in various schemes and systems throughout their collegiate and professional careers. It won't be the first time (for most of them) that they've had to adapt and learn something new, and no player gets to this level without the ability to adjust on the fly. So, implementing new systems and new faces will take a little time to get used to, and we don't know how long it will take.

Adding another receiver opposite Terry McLaurin is a really good idea in this instance. If they can bring in a veteran who can draw some attention, the offensive options will open up dramatically. Brandon Aiyuk could be that guy, but his recent antics have put a bit of a hold on things, and it's unclear if the Commanders will sign him if/when the San Francisco 49ers release him.
